Title World sustainable development outlook 2004. Global partnership for sustainable development : the role of academic institutions and societies in achieving the millennium development goals / Allam Ahmed and David Newton (eds.).
Publication Info Sheffield : WASD, 2004.

Descript 1 online resource (xiii, 239 p.)
Note The different papers in this book discuss a range of issues, with a common focus, namely the role of academic institutions and societies in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and Sustainable Development (SD). The crucial challenge is how to achieve these goals. To this end, this book attempts to demonstrate clearly such challenges and outline possible solutions and recommendations. Global partnership and collaboration will be required. Universities are greatly underutilized and are potentially powerful vehicles for development anywhere, but more so in developing countries. They should be employed as vital partners in the development process. This book critically examines those factors, frameworks and paradigms that would enable universities and institutions of higher education to contribute more fully in achieving the MDGs and SD. It is our hope that this book will help to stimulate debate amongst scholars, researchers and policy-makers.
