Note 1977 was a year of contrast, drama and tragedy. While Pierre Cardin was showing off his 'Oh-So 70's' summer collections, the unrest in Northern Ireland continued amid the 5th anniversary of 'Bloody Sunday', which the IRA commemorated by bombing London's West End. In politics, China's notorious 'Gang of Four' was expelled from the Communist Party; anti-apartheid activist Steve Biko died in custody in South Africa, and for a time, peace in the Middle East looked promising. But 1977 will be remembered most for the death of the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley, in August at his home in Graceland.
