The RP Drawing Prize: Revealing the Human

 Revealing the human to use

The Royal Society of Portrait Painters is proud to launch the RP Drawing Prize: Revealing the Human.

This is a new, dynamic opportunity for artists, designers and creatives whose work involves drawing.

This inaugural open call includes submissions in all drawing styles and techniques, providing a vibrant platform for bold, original, and thought-provoking work.

We are keen to explore and expand the idea of what a portrait can be, because drawing is such an immediate, direct response to the human.

Celebrating the power and versatility of drawing, the RP Drawing Prize champions creative expression and innovation, offering a unique opportunity for emerging and established artists to gain visibility.

This exhibition celebrates our history and showcases the evolution of the library from 1928, to the present day.

The display features archival materials alongside memories from past students, as well as highlighting our present offerings. We focus on what makes the BJL special, including our Books and Building, Staff and Students, plus contributions to the City and Community.

This exhibition is displayed on the ground floor of the Brynmor Jones Library,

between Teaching Rooms 3 and 4, near the Library Café.

Available for public viewing until November 4th.

About the exhibition space

A large exhibition gallery adjacent to the Art Collection enables us to provide a programme of loan exhibitions. The University upgraded this to the highest Government Indemnity standards for 2017 when Hull became UK City of Culture and we saw over 55,000 visitors to the galleries. We were able to launch 2017 with a remarkable exhibition of drawings from the British Museum, including works by Leonardo and Michelangelo.  We have also shown exhibitions in partnership with the National Portrait Gallery, Government Art Collection, and the Science Museums Group, and we continue to mount an exciting programme of exhibitions.
