Pub Date 1808: nos. 1-11 and 16-20 (nos. 12-15 were never published) ; for 1809 only changed name to The African herald (11 nos, with 2 different issues given no. 10) ; 1810: nos.1-2. Publication then ceased.

T. Perronet Thompson, governor of Sierra Leone from 1808-1810, temporarily changed the name of the newspaper to The African herald and the name of Freetown to Georgetown. He is also believed to be behind the satirical, unpublished version of no. 10 of The African herald, dated 11th November 1809.
