Original papers, 1844-1880, consist of the incoming papers sent by the mission secretary to the CMS headquarters. Topics include: regulations of the Fourah Bay Institution; the regulation of the Native Church; missionary journals and annual letters; minutes of committees and conferences; correspondence between the mission and the colonial government; statistical returns of the mission; proclamations and ordinances of the Lagos government. Includes the correspondence and Missionary Journal of Bishop Crowther, and material relating to: reverends Valentine Faulkner, C.A. Gollmer, J.A. Maser, William Allen; Capt. J.H. Glover, Governor of Lagos; Sagbua, Chief of Abeokuta; Samuel Crowther junior.
