We’re giving your library a lift
We’re carrying out a major lift upgrade to improve accessibility, safety and reliability across the Library.
Lift project underway
As part of our ongoing work to improve accessibility for all Library users, a major upgrade of our three main lifts began on Monday 14 July 2025, starting with the right‑hand lift. This long‑term project is expected to run until May 2027.
These essential upgrades will enhance accessibility, safety and reliability across the building, supporting our commitment to creating an inclusive and easy‑to‑navigate Library environment for everyone.
Latest update April 2026
Upgrade work to the middle lift is currently ongoing. This lift will be out of service until its upgrade has been completed.
To complete essential works on the middle lift, lift engineers will need to take the left-hand lift out of service at various times from Monday 20th April to Friday 1st May. This means that only one tower lift will be available during these times. Queues may be longer than normal, especially on the 1st floor. If you are able, you may wish to use the stairs which are clearly signposted.
We are very sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause. Please do not hesitate to speak to any member of the Library team if you have any questions. Thank you for your patience and cooperation while we improve your library.
