As part of our ongoing work to improve accessibility for all Library users, a major upgrade of our three main lifts began on Monday 14 July 2025, starting with the right‑hand lift. This long‑term project is expected to run until May 2027.
These essential upgrades will enhance accessibility, safety and reliability across the building, supporting our commitment to creating an inclusive and easy‑to‑navigate Library environment for everyone.
Upgrade work to the middle lift is nearly complete. It is planned to be operational from 26/10/2026.
The left-hand lift will be out of service for several months from 22/10/2026 as work begins on its upgrade.
This means that from 22-25 October, only the right-hand lift will be operational. During this time, queues may be longer than usual.
