Library facilities

The university campus is designed to be as inclusive as possible. You’ll find quiet and silent study zones, height-adjustable desks, and accessible toilets with emergency alarms on every floor. Lifts are fitted with safety sensors and audible alerts, and emergency phones connect directly to the Welcome Desk. To support a range of needs, we offer low-level information points with zoom features, colour-coded signage, a magnifier on the second floor, and hearing loops at key service points. The Reading Room includes a low-level printer, laptop collection point, and loans of noise-cancelling headphones, DVD players, and coloured overlay reading aids. You can also print on coloured paper — just ask at the Welcome Desk. Plus, our eBooks from VLeBooks and ProQuest include a helpful ‘read-aloud’ feature. We’re here to make your experience as smooth and comfortable as possible.

Library safety

In the event of a building evacuation, library staff will, if possible, help wheelchair users onto the fire-proof staircases, and will then alert the Library Safety Officer and emergency services of the need for further assistance.Staff at the Welcome Desk will be happy to note where you are planning to work if you provide this information on entering the building.

The Human Library Project

The Library and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion team are developing the Human Library Project - a virtual library where human ‘books’ shed light on their experiences to help people understand one another, challenge their own often unconscious bias, overcome stereotypes and help build a more inclusive society where no one is left behind.Every ‘book’ is a volunteer who has faced stigma in their life due to a personal difference.
